Antivirus family DrWeb32


These programs are representatives of the new 32-bit generation of antivirus scanner Dr.WEB. This new generation (DrWeb32) includes programs for Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP, DOS/386, OS/2, Novell NetWare, Linux, FreeBSD 3.xx and 4.xx and Solaris x86.

All programs are much alike traditional DrWeb for DOS. Beginning with version 4.0 of DrWeb main virus base was escaped into separate file and was downloaded after program start, like add-ons, that allowed to solve base memory limit problem. Now DrWeb32 was splitted into interface section, oriented on work in determined operational environment and kernel, independent from OS. Such organization allowed:

- using of common virus base files for DrWeb for DOS/386, Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP, OS/2, Novell NetWare, Linux, FreeBSD 3.xx and 4.xx and Solaris x86 (this was the reason of the same versions numeration for different platforms);

- attaching program kernel to different interface programs and application, that allowes simple integration with much applications;

- method of automatic virus base and kernel update through Intenet.

 Structure of DrWeb32 family and short components description

 

All programs DrWeb32 family support common set of command line switches. Version for Windows with windowed interface allowes in simple understandable form tune the program and choose an abject for testing. Also, in this program was released method of automatic updating through Intenet.

External virus base consist of main base file ( DRWEBASE.VDB) and files of add-ons  (DRWvvvnn.VDB, where vvv - version number of Dr.Web, nn - serial number of add-on).

External virus base files are protected by special alhoritms, created by "LAN-Crypt" company.
